That I may find grace

During the past week, I have been engrossed in the song "Grace" originally sang by Michael W. Smith but this time around I was enjoying it from the mouth of a different vessel. More the the music and worship played, the more I sank into it. Then I dawned on me that in the scriptures many men found grace at one time or the day which enabled them accomplish mighty things. But of interest here is Noah.

In Genesis Chapter 6, verse 8 the bible records that Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. Wow so profound.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Wow so profound. Why was this a "eureka" moment in this Chapter of the book of Genesis. Well in the preceding verses of Chapter 8, the bible records that it repented the LORD that He had made man on the earth. Mans actions had been a direct cause of why the LORD had repented for making man. Thus the LORD gave a verdict in verse 7 that He will destroy man.

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

That was God's judgement on man for his actions. But despite the fate of man, a particular man; Noah found grace. This reveals that a generation's fate doesn't have to be mine.

In the New Testament, Philippians 2:15 gave a similar scenario,

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

It is God's desire for his children while on earth - untainted by the norms and practices of this world. Thus we exempt ourselves from the judgment of the world.

Oh LORD, that I may find grace in Your eyes. Amen
